‘Hidden in the hedgerows” Original 12 x 16 inch gouache painting
“Hidden in the hedgerows” is an original gouache painting by Angharad Brawn.
The painting features a pair of endangered hazel dormice that have suddenly met deep in the blackberry bushes. One looks curiously down at the other.
It was originally painted to be entered in a competition to raise money for endangered animals but unfortunately it wasn’t chosen
I chose to paint the dormice as I find that people focus on the exotic endangered animals and they forgot that there are creatures struggling for survival at home.
The hazel dormouse is an important indicator of the health of the forest, they are in serious danger and their numbers have declined by 52% since 1995.
50% of the money from this painting will be donated to the woodland trust who are actively creating safe habitats for dormice around the UK.

Important information
The piece is painted with traditional gouache, therefore it’s sealed with a wax sealer so may have a waxy feel.
There’s a 5mm white border around the edge but the bottom one is slightly curved due to the warping of the tape. There is also a couple of places where the paint has seeped over the edge of the tape. This can be easily hidden with a frame tough.
